Perhaps most famous for giving their guests everything they want and nothing they don’t. citizenM in Schiphol was the first and it created the term “Affordable Luxury” a sentiment the team deliver flawlessly. It is backed by the folks that bought you Mexx clothing and they have also just opened, amongst much fanfare, citizenM New York.
The Good Stuff
The Samsung tablet controls everything in your guest room from blackout blinds to the temperature and the very cool TV. Use the tablet to set the mood, whether it is romance or business you seek. The rooms are compact but they pack a pretty big punch. The shower is something worthy of its own mention as it features several options from monsoon to massage and yes, citizenM have their own bathroom amenities titled citizenAM and citizenPM. Each room has a laptop size safe that will make you feel like a Bond villain, this I can guarantee.
The Vibe
It’s a creative hub being both cool and simple. The crowd is hip and laid back and the lounge area gives you a real sense of entrepreneurial spirit whilst also serving up some fine cocktails. The personality of citizenM runs throughout everything they do. It is cool, colloquial and refreshing on the senses.
Inside the hotel – 9/10
What makes citizenM come alive is the team, I challenge you to not befriend at least one team member. Returning to the hotel after a long day out always makes you feel like you’re coming back to see some good old friends. Everything is always just where you need it at citizenM.
Outside the hotel – 6/10
Charles de Gaulle terminal 3 isn’t exactly a hipster melting pot, but it is easily accessible from the runway and the Metro effortlessly takes you anywhere you need to be. We’d always recommend lunch at Hotel Costes.
