Nordic functionalism. SP34 occupies the site of the former Fox hotel which featured room designs by different artists. This new opening couldn’t be more different. Featuring a muted colour palette the charm of this hotel lies in its subtle & understated style.
The Good Stuff
Help yourself to a glass of wine during “wine hour” and relax in the bar lounge (a rather nice afternoon suntrap) or settle in at the rooftop terrace. The streamlined décor is really what sets SP34 apart and confirms its status as a popular new kid on this block.
The Vibe
Fresh, unpretentious and welcoming, the hotel’s aspiration is to draw in the “luxury bohemian” set blurring the lines between business & leisure. “Wine-Dine-Repeat”, the motto of SP34’s Spanish inspired Bar Moritz, gives guests a flavour of the dining culture from cities like Madrid & Barcelona. While round the corner Cocks & Cows is the classic American burger joint with a Scandinavian twist (where everything is homemade, apart from the Heinz ketchup). Hotel SP34 taps into the local culture through its links with Din Nye Ven coffee house, where, as well as getting your caffeine hit, you can get a shot of culture too via the ongoing timetable of poetry readings, art exhibitions and concerts.
Inside the hotel – 7/10
Rather than adorned walls and embellished fabrics there is a strong focus on refinement, craftsmanship, natural materials and signature furniture pieces & design objects. Refined Scandi style is at its finest at Hotel SP34 with the building itself (formed of 3 connected townhouses) featuring wonderfully high ceilings as well as large windows & skylights allowing natural light to flood the spaces.
Outside the hotel – 7/10
Copenhagen hasn’t really caught on to the living hotel style happening in other European cities and therefore this hotel stands out. The new Hotel SP34 sits very much in harmony with the personality of the neighbourhood. Located in the Latin Quarter there is an abundance of cafes, restaurants and quirky shops nearby.
