Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs

Best Known For
Palm Springs is best known as vintage Hollywood’s desert playground. A leisure traveller’s dream, it boasts a near perfect sunshine record and is considered one of the finest golf resort locations in the world. This is a Ritz Carlton hotel, a name synonymous with luxury hotels across the globe.

The Good Stuff
They say you get one chance to make a first impression and this hotel had me hooked as soon as the car door opened. Whisked inside, the luggage was taken care of and we were greeted by name, this had a good feeling all over it. Arriving early and not expecting the room to be ready, the key was handed over before any order for lunch could take place. But when it did, the burger was to die for. Up in the bedroom, we went straight out onto the little terrace to relax and watch the world go by.

The Vibe
Well-heeled families and couples mix easily in this desert oasis. Coordinating bikinis and beach cover-ups are the order of the day and a separate pool for the grown-ups keeps everybody happy. An easy, relaxing atmosphere reigns supreme. Not a big fan of the breakfast menu, much prefer a buffet in the morning. The breakfast service also needs a little attention. Watch out for extras, we stayed on the opening package which included breakfast, resort fee and valet parking, otherwise you will find these bumping up your bill.

Inside the hotel – 9.5/10
The resort opened earlier this year and hence everything is brand, spanking new. The rooms offer space, comfort and every luxury amenity you can possibly think of. A gorgeous deep soaking tub with a spacious shower grace the bathroom while outside the furnished terrace is a real delight. The entire resort is beautifully designed and the natural elements of wood and stone combine to create a soothing aesthetic with stunning views over the valley. We didn’t make it to the spa, at least it gives us a reason to go back!

Outside the hotel – 9/10
Rancho Mirage is located in the heart of the Palm Springs valley surrounded by a host of bars, restaurants and shops. The resort also gives easy access to the greater Palm Springs area.
