Best Known For
When Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell created The Morgan Hotel in NYC, it changed the industry – not overnight, but it galvanised the industry. What followed was a twenty year game changing career that gave birth to iconic landmarks The Royalton, The Hudson, The Delano and of course The Mondrian and more.
The Good Stuff
Over two decades later we see Mr Schrager back at it and in no unfashionable style with The London Edition. On entering you’ll find the lobby offering opposing contrast with a pool table on one side and work station on the other. Naturally they are not ordinary work stations, they’re wonderfully functional. On from here you’ll find a slick bar with high design lounge sofas and an inviting atmosphere. A beautiful lobby desk offsets an inviting front desk and of course just on from here you can see and witness the effortlessly fun Punch room, if you’re lucky. And of course, Jason Atherton’s slick operation with striking design Berner’s Tavern is just a delight. As for the bedrooms. What can we say? Other than they are beautiful and yes, the minibar is very cool.
The Vibe
But to be honest what we appreciate about them the most is how Ian Schrager has once again caught that sense of timelessness that so belongs within hotel world, but is so rarely captured appropriately. The plush wooden panelling and sumptuous throws add to a really beautiful experience. That word again, beauty, in fact it’s how we’d sum up the Edition, beautiful.
Inside the hotel – 9/10
It’s stunning, we recommend a visit, quite simply for the theatre.
Outside the hotel – 9/10
Well hey, it’s London on the doorstep of everything – Soho, Mayfair, Noho and Bloomsbury.
