The NoMad, New York

Contributor/ James Layfield

Best Known For
Famous for being run by the folks that bought you The Line in LA and Freehand in Miami, the Sydell Group.

The Good Stuff
Located North of Madison Square Park, hence the NoMad name, I came across the hotel on Tablet Hotels. I originally chose it due to it being in my favourite neighbourhood and close to my usual NY home – Ace. I didn’t have a clue what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was hugely different in style and ethos to Ace New York. The decor is beautiful and the bedrooms are just stunning. The design offers both flashes of old school grandeur and a rugged, lived in, but cool look, with an achingly modern attitude towards service and brand experience. The highlights for me would have to be the bar and dinning areas, particularly the conservatory right in the middle of the hotel, pretty unique in this city. As they always say, when in NY, look up!

The Vibe
The hotel crowd is quirky and cool so you can imagine the fun we had in the restaurant and bar. Work or play, this hotel is hip and stands out in beautiful fashion from the other era New York hotels. I would definitely recommend checking out The NoMad, as you may well end up with a bargain and a grand, but relaxed, slice of NY.

Inside the hotel – 7/10
As with most modern hotels the level of service was good, but there were a few challenges resulting from the food and beverage side of things, resulting in only being able to eat certain things from certain menus in certain places.

Outside the hotel – 8/10
It is just around the corner from Ace NY so great for the Flatiron District and Gramercy Park. It’s also perfect for SoHo, Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District.
