Best Known For
This cracking boutique hotel is slap-bang in midtown on Madison Ave on the perimeter of ‘Korea town’ this is a great little hotel. Formerly the Roger Williams now shortened to ‘The Roger’ after it’s refurbishment the hotel re-opened back in June 2012.
The Good Stuff
Every evening on the mezzanine level a small pop-up bar appeared as if by magic (no pun intended) tended by knowledgeable mixologists. My Rye old fashioned(s) hit the spot! Downstairs, the reception bar was lofty and bright with a contemporary feel. Our double room was cosily furnished by a good eye. The little sanctuary ‘Yes sir’ had a top notch view of the Empire State building. Yes indeed, every morning we woke up looking onto a scene from the movies whilst enjoying my eclectic NYC playlist on Spotify, courtesy of the free wifi.
The Vibe
‘Twas Friday night in NYC the front bar filled up by many regulars and NYC’s bright young things plus the many movers and shakers from around the globe sauntering around. The staff were friendly in a machine like fashion.
Inside the hotel – 8/10
Fab lofty reception area and helpful staff. Rooms although compact used space and had a high level of attention to detail. The aforementioned free wifi was faster than Superman’s quick change. However, I must say the lifts in the hotel were tad slow not keeping in pace with the ultimate mega city.
Outside the hotel – 9/10
Great location for a weekend shopping break and a stone’s throw from many a classic NYC sight. Also, nestled next to the cultural hub of Korea town with many excellent bars and restaurants.
